Referring a patient
Thank you for trusting me with your patient. I welcome referrals for prostate, kidney, and bladder cancer, complex BPH, stone disease, and general urology across Washington and the Pacific Northwest. New cancer diagnoses are prioritized and typically seen within 1–2 weeks. You'll hear back from me promptly after the visit.

What to send
Records ahead of the visit make the first consultation far more useful — but an incomplete workup should never delay a referral. Send what you have.
Prostate cancer & elevated PSA
PSA history with dates, prostate MRI (images and report), and biopsy pathology if done. An elevated PSA alone is reason enough to refer — I can complete the workup here.
Renal masses & kidney cancer
Cross-sectional imaging — CT or MRI images on disc or via records release, not just the report. Renal function labs are helpful for partial-nephrectomy planning.
Bladder cancer & hematuria
Hematuria workup to date: urinalysis, cytology if done, imaging, and any cystoscopy findings or TURBT pathology.
BPH & urinary retention
Medication history, prostate size if known (imaging or prior cystoscopy), and PVR or uroflow if available. Catheter-dependent patients are a priority — I offer Aquablation and single-port simple prostatectomy.
Stone disease
Most recent imaging and any prior stone history, procedures, or metabolic workup.
General urology
Relevant notes and labs. When in doubt, send the patient — I would rather see them once than have something wait.
Education: single-port proctoring & case observation
Beyond clinical referrals, I work with surgeons who are adopting the da Vinci SP platform:
- Single-port proctor (Intuitive Surgical). I serve as an official SP proctor and can support your program's early SP experience.
- SP case-observation site. Swedish First Hill hosts visiting surgeons for single-port case observation, including SP retroperitoneal partial and radical nephrectomy, SP extraperitoneal radical prostatectomy, transvesical simple prostatectomy (STEP), and SP pyeloplasty.
Observation visits and proctoring — including visiting-surgeon logistics and the official site documentation — are arranged through your local Intuitive Surgical representative.
